Protostar by AnimatedTako Protostar by AnimatedTako
Behold, the Protostar! This is the player's craft from Studio Nasu's spaceship shooter, named after the title ship - Protostar.

In the fiction of the game, it is high tech fighter carrying a prototype warp drive. It is thought to be the smallest warp capable craft built by any of the factions that lay claim to the galaxy.

Operated by the Royal Vanguard Navy, the Protostar is pushed into service from the R.V.N. Phalanx, a light carrier assigned to patrol a derelict system for pirate activity.

The sprite was created pixel by pixel, in Photoshop CS2.

You can play the game for free, here! [link]

Nice. I've always had trouble creating banking jets. Did you model it in Sketch-Up first?

Thanks! Actually, I didn't use any 3d reference on this one. I separated the ship into several vertical slices on different layers and moved them to get the main shapes in place for each frame, than flattened it all and finished it off. In hindsight, I do think I'll be switching to 3d reference for future ships because it's such a time saver!

I almost thought that was a 3-D model when I saw the thumbnail. That's some great shading and rotation you have in that animation!
